Having completed a satisfying 24 year career as a fire fighter, and wanting a change of scenery, I moved, with my family, to Montrose in 1990. We had vacationed in this area several times and liked the size of the community, the friendliness of its residents and the obvious beautiful surroundings.
My wife, Jean, quickly found employment as a Home Health nurse and I quickly tired of being a "house husband". Being a house husband with an abundance of natural curiosity, and having no desire to watch soap operas, I was led to discover the many things to learn about our region. I considered several second career options but really wanted to use my people skills and knowledge of the area to benefit someone (other than Jean!!) I had always enjoyed home ownership (from "fixer uppers" to "turn-key"), landscaping, investment properties and had an interest in farm and ranch properties and recreational lands.
Real estate licensure seemed the obvious and I was licensed in the Spring of 1991. My first sale was my own home (one of the hazards of the occupation!!) and away I went. Almost immediately I became involved in local Real Estate politics. I had a complaint and felt that hopping on board to see what might be done to improve things was a better alternative to the usual routine of bellyaching to any and everyone who would listen.
Because of that, I have had a rewarding local and state political career. I have served as Montrose Association of Realtors ® President, as Northwest District Vice President twice, a three year term as Colorado Association of Realtors® Director, as Law and Policy Divisional Vice President, and three terms on the Colorado Association of Realtors ® Executive Committee, as well as serving on several local committees. I was awarded the Presidents Award in 1997, and my fellow Realtors ® have twice awarded me "Realtor ® of the Year."
Through this service I have gained much knowledge about the business of Real Estate. This knowledge directly benefits consumers by protecting them from pitfalls known only to those professionals who are involved with the associations that exist to promote, educate and protect them.
Because of my "busy-ness" with my Real Estate practice and politics, I did enough arm twisting to persuade Jean to leave her 29 year nursing career and join me in Real Estate (I'm STILL doing the nightly dishes!!) She held an active license practicing all phases of Real Estate from 1997 to 2002. Since 2002 she has worked as my Professional Assistant, keeping our work better organized. She is usually available, when I am not, to provide you with assistance.
I stay abreast of changes in Real Estate by taking classes so that I may protect my clients and enhance my practice. I have achieved the educational designations of Graduate Realtor ® Institute How will this help you? and e-PRO How will this help you? I am still learning (and the rules keep changing) but my knowledge of water rights, land use, zoning, development requirements and more, continually save my clients time as I help them to navigate through these territories.
The foundation of my practice is service. It is foremost in my mind that I am working for my client, whether they are Seller or Buyer. I am confident that my knowledge and the oath I took to practice Real Estate and the fact that I take very seriously the Realtors ® Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice will assure you that my service of your real estate needs will be provided with honesty and integrity.
These Testimonials will give you an idea of how clients perceive my work.

- checks e-mail frequently
- responds via e-mail if that is the consumers preference
- knows that you want your privacy respected
- knows that you do not want unsolicited communication
- knows that you want your personal information protected
- knows that you want most of the information you gather to be available via the internet
- knows that you expect to be able to do extensive property searches and that you want instant notification via e-mail for new listings which meet your criteria
- knows you may want all files to be available electronically
